Kitten Care

Please bring your kitten in for a physical examination as soon as possible to establish a relationship with a veterinarian at Morrisville Cat Hospital so that your new feline friend will be sure to receive everything he or she needs to grow up healthy and strong.

During your initial visit, we will perform a comprehensive examination to detect if your kitten has any potential health issues. We will also examine your kitten for intestinal parasites and perform deworming if necessary. A growing kitten’s immune system is still developing, which leaves them more vulnerable to illness. We have recommendations for vaccinations depending on your kitten’s age and health. At your kitten’s exams, we will be happy to address any questions you have concerning care for your pet, such as diet and nutrition, behavioral issues, litter box usage and vaccinations.

We ask that you bring the health information provided to you by the seller or shelter on your first visit with us, which should include a previous history of vaccines and deworming.  And don’t forget your new kitten in a carrier!

5 – 7 Months

Spay or Neuter

** All kittens should be tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. The Feline Leukemia vaccine is recommended for all cats who have access to the outdoors. If you are not sure if your kitten will be going outside, it is best to vaccinate rather than risk exposure of your unprotected kitten to this deadly virus.

We recommend brushing your cat’s teeth, and starting as early as possible is best. We will show you how to do this at one of your kitten’s appointments. The earlier you start this habit, the easier it will be for you and your cat to continue practicing good dental hygiene. An estimated 90% of adult cats suffer from dental disease including gingivitis and tartar accumulation.

Check with us about how much your kitten is eating. Not all kittens will self-regulate, especially if they like the food you are feeding. We prefer a quality diet comprised of a combination of dry and canned foods fed 2 – 3 times per day. This amounts to about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of dry kitten food, and about 1/4 to 1/2 of a can of canned food daily, depending on your kitten’s age and size. Please ask if you have any questions about how much you should be feeding your kitten.

Senior Care

Cats are very good at hiding ailments and by the time symptoms have started to show, their ailments can be in a stage of rapid progression. Cats are considered “senior” at the age of 7 and something as simple as weight loss or increased water consumption could indicate an underlying issue. It is very important to have your feline friends checked routinely as a form of preventative care. Many feline diseases are often treatable, especially if they are caught early! Please refer to our guidelines for recommended health care for each life stage of your feline companion and give us a call if you have any questions or concerns. For cats 7 – 11 years old with NO clinical signs of disease

  • Comprehensive Senior Physical Examination every 6 months

    • Blood Pressure

For cats 7 – 11 years old WITH clinical signs of disease

  • Comprehensive Senior Physical Examination every 6 months
  • Weight Assessment
  • Labwork every 6 months
    • CBC, Creatinine, Potassium, Liver Enzymes, Thyroid Level
    • Urinalysis
    • Blood Pressure
    • FeLV / FIV / Heartworm testing (if access to outdoors)
